Texas’s pension liabilities
As of last year, Texas has $60 billion in unfunded pension liabilities, or future tax obligations, which means your share of the bill could total as much as $13,120.
If nothing changes, this debt will continue to grow and we’ll be picking up the tab for this costly and outdated system. It’s time for our legislature to acknowledge this very real threat to current and future taxpayers.
Texas’s pension problem is not unique. Many states across the country face similar pension crises and their citizens are often left holding enormous bills, or with cuts to programs such as schools, roads or other services we expect.
